This course covers concepts and methods
in design, implementation, and
maintenance of the data and knowledge
management systems. The course develops
an understanding of database
development, database administration,
and knowledge management.
Course Objectives
Relate the idea of data as a corporate resource that can be used to gain a competitive advantage.
Explain the basic principles of the database concept, relational database model, and practical use of data Modeling.
Describe how data can be treated as a manageable resource.
Explain important features of the database such as data security, backup, recovery, concurrency, referential integrity, and data redundancy.
Describe the concept of logical and physical database design.
Describe SQL as a relational data manipulation language
Learning Outcomes
Explain core concepts of data and knowledge management, including the design, implementation, and maintenance of database systems that support organizational decision-making.
Analyze and apply the principles of relational database models, data modeling techniques, and database development processes to design effective data structures.
Evaluate data as a strategic corporate resource by demonstrating how proper management, governance, and organization of data can provide a competitive advantage.
