This course introduces generic project management methods and techniques (e.g. PMI) as well as techniques specific to software projects (e.g., Agile Methods and Extreme Programming) and demonstrates how software projects are different from other types of projects. The course will cover best practices and software project management standards such as Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) as well as the ISO/IEC and IEEE/EIA 1058 and 12207 standards.

Learning Outcomes
Explain and compare traditional and modern project management methodologies, including PMI frameworks, Agile Methods, and Extreme Programming (XP), and describe how software projects differ from non-software projects.
Develop a comprehensive business case for IT projects, identifying project goals, expected value, constraints, stakeholders, and feasibility criteria.
Create detailed project implementation plans using industry-standard practices and models such as CMMI, ISO/IEC standards, and IEEE/EIA guidelines to structure scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk components.
Monitor and control project execution by applying tracking tools, performance metrics, risk management practices, and change control procedures throughout the software project life cycle.
Evaluate project outcomes and document lessons learned, reflecting on successes, challenges, and improvements to enhance future software project management performance.
